It all started with an idea, and a desire to make a difference.
Rockaway Beach Autism Families (RBAF) was founded by local parents who saw the need for connection, support, and understanding within our community.
We are a grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals on the autism spectrum and their families through advocacy, education, and inclusive programs.

In September 2016, Rockaway Beach resident Kami-Leigh Agard, a writer and mother of a young girl on the autism spectrum, approached The Rockaway Times about writing a monthly column addressing autism.
What began as a column soon became something more. Seeing the need for parents to connect face-to-face, Kami-Leigh founded a parent support group where local families could share resources, encouragement, and understanding.
From those humble beginnings, Rockaway Beach Autism Families (RBAF) grew into a grassroots organization created by parents, for parents — building a stronger, more inclusive community for individuals with autism and their families.
Today, RBAF offers monthly meetings, educational workshops, recreational activities, and community events designed to empower families and promote autism awareness and acceptance.
We continue to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where families can connect, share resources, learn from one another, and have fun together.
